Medical Education and Training (MET) Data Collection
The Medical Education and Training (MET) Data is updated annually and similar to that published in previous Medical Training Review Panel (MTRP) reports. It is made available online each year and reports the annual changes in medical education and training in Australia.
The latest release of data is available through MET Dashboard .
MET data is grouped by sections (chapters) based on previous report structure:
-
Chapter 2: University medical education and training
-
Chapter 3: Prevocational medical education and training
-
Chapter 4: Vocational medical education and training
-
Chapter 5: International supply of medical practitioners
-
Chapter 6: Quality, distribution and access to programs (3GA programs)
The latest data on medical students studying at Australian universities are presented in this chapter which analyses trends over the last five years.
This dashboard details the number of junior doctors undertaking postgraduate prevocational training across Australia. Data is provided by state and territory health departments and the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
This dashboard reports on vocational training. It presents data on the number of vocational medical training places from 2017-2022 and the results of college examinations held in 2016-2021 for each of the specialty areas. All data were current unless stated otherwise. The data have been provided by all of the specialist medical colleges and associated faculties and the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
This dashboard brings together the available data on medical practitioners who have trained overseas – their assessment by the Australian Medical Council (AMC), the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and specialist medical colleges, and those with approved working visas issued by the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
This chapter reports on the Special Purpose Training Programs established under section 3GA of the Act. Section 3GA programs target particular workforce requirements. These include vocational training, vocational recognition and other training needs.
With the functions of the Medical Training Review Panel (MTRP) report being absorbed by National Medical Training Advisory Network (NMTAN) in early 2017, NMTAN agreed to release medical education and training (MET) data similar to that published in previous MTRP reports. The Medical Education and Training (MET) data aims to continue the time series from MTRP and is presented in the same tabled format as the former publications.
From 2022, the data is presented within a series of Dashboards and Table Builders to increase flexibility and allow the creation of individual tables.
